“It’s been easier operating out of Bear River than in other, more developed agri-business areas”

Martin McGurk and partner Gordon Tingley recently shipped their first commercial orders of lavender-flavoured food products, including jelly, syrup, baking sugar and pepper, to retailers.

“We love to be adventurous with food,” says co-owner Martin McGurk.  “We’re excited to be able to introduce some of our discoveries to a wider audience now.”

The first retailers to carry Sledding Hill products are the Trilocal Market in Digby and the Saltscapes General Store in Truro.  Retailers in Halifax are being approached.

“The use of lavender in cooking is a growing trend, but it can be challenging to work with,” says co-owner Gordon Tingley.  “We’ve created condiments that remove much of the labor and guesswork.”

Recipes for using Sledding Hill’s lavender products to make desserts, cocktails, and salad dressings are included on their web site:  http://sleddinghill.ca.  Their products are also available to order direct via their online store.
